Pitching Injuries

The forces during the pitching cycle lead to injury. Now adolescents represent the largest group of injured pitchers. I believe the pursuit of 95 + mph fastball is the reason for injury. Researchers are continuing to hypothesize why injuries are rising. This study looked at mound height as a variable that could potentially increase injury. However, the study demonstrated no significant difference in shoulder or elbow kinetics related to mound height. Some kinematic differences were found but mostly at the lead foot before the acceleration phase of the pitching cycle. Increasing pitching distance did note increase in shoulder kinetics.
